What is an Oversized Labial Frenum: The labial frenum is a tissue fold that connects the inside of the upper or lower lip to the gums. Oversized labial frenum can create dental and oral health concerns. An oversized labial frenum can induce a diastema between the upper front teeth. Gum disease and tooth decay can result from frenum-induced gum recession. It can also cause jaw pain and difficulty biting or eating.

Aligner Treatment: The treatment of Oversized labial frenum varies depending on its severity, which can be determined by a dentist or an orthodontist. An enlarged labial frenum can also be corrected using clear aligners in a few cases. The enlarged labial frenum may require a frenectomy before or during aligner therapy. During the process of treatment, 3D designed & custom made series of plastic trays move the teeth into an ideal position & closes the space between the teeth. The duration of treatment will be determined by the extent of the gap as well as the unique requirements of the patient. To get the desired  results, it is essential to adhere to the treatment plan and wear the aligners as prescribed.

Aligners Treatment process – step by step:

  1. Consultation: Consultation with a Dental Specialist is a must to evaluate if the Aligner treatment is an ideal option
  2. Treatment Strategy: 3D scan of the patient\’s teeth or imprints of the patient\’s teeth are obtained in order to build a treatment plan. The treatment plan describes the expected tooth movements and the duration of treatment.
  3. Fabrication Of Aligners: Custom made aligners are fabricated in the form of a set of trays that are intended to be worn continuously for a predetermined amount of time. They are then replaced by the subsequent aligner in the series.
  4. Appointments for further follow-up: The patient should regularly visit Dentist or the Orthodontist for follow-ups to monitor the progress of the treatment.

These aligners are to be worn for recommended 22 hours a day and should be removed them only before having meals and while brushing and flossing of the teeth. In the process, the aligners are also required to be washed to keep them hygienic. Each set of aligner are worn for 15 days after which next set in the series are replaced. Ideal treatment period ranges from 12-18 months.
