Clear aligners, also referred as invisible or transparent aligners, are a series of sets of thermo-plastic trays, which are worn to align, straighten and for smile corrections. They are widely preferred as they are very discrete, light, smooth and easy to use and also easily removable during meals, consumption of hot/cold drinks and during washing them or brushing/flossing the teeth.
In order to get the best results, one needs to follow some rules strictly. The Dos & Donts of Clear aligner treatment, which are needed to be adhered to religiously are asunder:
Dos:
- The aligners are to be removed while eating or consuming hot / cold drinks
- They are to be worn for at least 20-22 hours for optimum results.
- These are to be cleaned regularly with a gentle soap using a soft bristled brush.
- The teeth have to be brushed and flossed at least twice a day after removing the aligners.
- In order to prevent loss and damage, the aligners are to be kept safely in their case while not in use.
- The follow-up visits to the dental specialist is a must, as per the schedule, to monitor the progress of the treatment.
- To help and seat the aligners properly on the teeth and to aid the tooth movement process, aligner chewie are to be used.
Don’ts:
- Should drink water at normal temperature and nothing else while wear aligners. Too hot or too cold liquids may damage the aligners.
- Abrasive cleaners or toothpaste are strictly to be avoided to prevent any damage to the aligners.
- Sticky food and too hard to bite foods are to be avoided while wearing the aligners.
- As the aligners are custom made as per one’s teeth profile, they are not to be shared with anyone else.
- Sharing also may cause oral hygiene issues and can easily spread bacteria and other disease like gum / periodontal diseases from one person to another person
