Thumb Sucking
Thumb sucking is a very common habit amongst the infants and toddlers in order to show a sign of hunger or to provide self comfort or even for relaxation. In most of the cases, this habit carries on till the age of 4 years approximately. Although, there are a few exceptions where some of the children continue to suck their thumb even few years after the age of 4 years.
Prolonged thumb sucking can cause various complications to the child, such as:
- The upper front teeth or the top anterior teeth may protrude forward resulting in overbite
- Jaw alignment may be affected adversely
- May cause speech impediments in the child like lisping etc
- Blisters or rashes or calluses on the thumb or fingers
- Bacterial infections in the mouth or gums and even other parts of the body are a high possibility due to germs and bacteria on the thumb or fingers

Aligner Treatment
In mild or moderate cases, where the child has stopped the habit sucking the thumb or fingers and the front teeth are protruding forward, one can opt for Clear Aligners.
